Building Job Satisfaction: Individually and Collectively
By: Jamie Davies
Each of us brings a different personality and set of experiences to a team. When combined, we can successfully perform better every day to reach our goals. When we’re happy at work, we will always do a better job, it just comes natural.
This is pointed out in the second sentence of our company mission statement: We enjoy a high level of job satisfaction by seizing opportunities for growth and exceeding personal expectation. - To be frank, some days when things get crazy, we don’t always feel chipper and self-confident. But even those days are part of the collective experience of working for a living. If we understand that, and then support and respect each other daily, we will be setting ourselves up for success. - I believe there are 4 basic rules for supporting your teammates: trust, communicate, commit to goals, and throw in a little fun. - The first two, trust and communication, are only effective if they are offered genuinely. I choose to think of my team as extended family (Why not? Between home and work, it’s about the same :) If they know that I am a real person too, then they feel more comfortable coming to me for help and more able to push through challenges.
It is important that this support and teamwork always be centered towards specific goals, which in our case, ultimately comes down to taking care of every customer.
Finally, throwing some fun in the day-to-day is a great refresher. Whether it is coming up with the coolest nameplate design in the company (which we definitely have) or getting our families together after hours, these little extra experiences can contribute in big ways to overall job satisfaction.
